Kitchen Sink Drains 

Even when you take extra care with your kitchen sink drain, there’s always the possibility of a clog. Even the most harmless-seeming small particles that go down the drain — small amounts of coffee grounds or flour, for example — can build up over time. The next thing you know, there’s a clog!

Bathroom Sink Drains

Bathroom drains have a similar problem. With these drains, though, a blocked sink usually arises from the collection of hair shed by humans and pets. It might also be tiny fibres from clothing washed in the sink or even just skin cells from washing your hands and face. 

Like most sink clogs, these clogs are mostly organic and thus very susceptible to bacteria growth.

Utility Sink Drains

Utility sinks are the workhorse sinks of a household. People sometimes forget that their pipes need the same care as any others. People use their utility sinks to get rid of all sorts of basement dirt, grime, sawdust, dead insects, and whatever comes out in the washing machine’s rinse cycle.

Bath Drains

Bath drains are similar to the drains in bathroom sinks, and they tend to collect the same clog-forming substances — only in greater quantity. That’s why most have some form of strainer or trap to capture some of the muck before it goes into the home’s main drain pipe (the stack).

Drains in Showers

Drains in stand-alone showers (those not connected to bathtubs) work a little differently than those in sinks and baths. Whereas the sinks just discussed, as well as toilets, send waste fluids through various pipes leading to the sewer (or septic system), wastewater from shower stalls takes a more direct route out of the house — right to the sewer.

Floor Wastes

Floor wastes, generally found in the bathroom, laundry or garage, function similarly to shower drains. They collect wastewater (such as rainwater from a car or condensation from a dehumidifier) and take it directly to the sewer. This is why it’s important not to put dangerous chemicals into a floor drain.
